There’s no better way for you to start a special day in Salzburg than with a visit to the Carpe Diem Lounge at the breathtaking Hangar-7. On display in the exquisite hangar is a fascinating collection of historic aircraft & vehicles as well as regular art exhibitions. At the Carpe Diem Lounge, you can sample the heavenly tastes of sweet and savory delicacies adorning the Étagère.
During the week, breakfast is served from 09:00 to 11:30, and until 14:00 on weekends. It is only possible to make a reservation if you’re arriving at 9:00, and after that tables are subject to availability.Regardless, a short wait will allow you to experience the magical atmosphere inside the ‘glass museum’ – enjoy a pulse-racing stroll amidst the dazzling showcase of airplanes, helicopters & racing cars, and absorb the latest art exhibition.
Hangar-7 is not too far from the old town – only 5-10 minutes by bus or car. The perfect way to take in Salzburg is with a short walk up the Mönchsberg to enjoy the stunning panoramic views over the city. The ideal starting point is from the Mülln church – which incidentally is listed as a world cultural heritage site. From there, head uphill for magnificent views of the picturesque old town and the Salzach. At the top, weave your way past the Mönchstein castle through a short piece of woodland to the Museum of Modern Art. At this point you can catch your breath and let the stunning views sink in – an experience which is most definitely out of this world!
Continue by foot or by elevator down to the Old Town, where the colorful, cheerful world of the Afro Cafe awaits. Discover the unique joie de vivre of Africa and the culinary diversity of the magical continent. From the popular ostrich burgers right through to the banana bread, every guest is certain to find a new favorite exotic dish. You can also enjoy a cup of Fairtrade AFRO COFFEE or AFRO TEA – the finest tea and coffee in town. You can also take a small piece of the Afro spirit away with you too – an assortment of goodies is available from the small Afro shop.
Moving on, across the road lies the famous Getreidegasse where one can experience a time-traveling stroll through the centuries. Enjoy winding detours into the so-called Durchhäuser passages. These lead to magnificent courtyards, in which the bustle of Getreidegasse suddenly becomes only remotely audible. Keep zig-zagging and enjoy discovering the hidden gem dotted throughout the old town.
If you feel like shopping, you will find an almost unlimited selection – from souvenirs to art, from jewelry to umbrellas, from traditional dirndl to modern outdoor clothing. If you’re a fashionista and interested in a remarkable new range of clothing, don’t miss the Alpha Tauri shop. With its unique interior of wood, glass, metal and custom-made furniture, the shop itself is as visionary as the casual outfits that have been crafted with pioneering textile technologies.
Positioned on one end of Getreidegasse (no. 50), Carpe Diem is a culinary institution for both locals and visitors to the city of Mozart – and also the perfect way to end an unforgettable day. Sip on an elegant aperitif at the bar and enjoy a view of the hustle and bustle on the street. Be sure to sample the unique speciality cones – a kind of wafer cone filled with savory or sweet, and warm or cold fillings. Treat yourself to these freshly prepared taste explosions such as the beef tartare in a sancho pepper cone or even a fish cone like the Carinthian Lax'n in a paprika cone.
If you’re in the mood for more than a snack, head to the Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant on the first floor and savour a multi-course menu and a selection of excellent wines – a truly remarkable end to a fine day of discovery and enjoyment.
Carpe Diem... Seize the day!
